Bought the tmobile GN2 but have been too busy to take it out of the box...

Also, according to Sammobile, the N7000 will get multiview with the JB update.

Paranoid Android rom, yesterday's nightly with phablet mode and 201dpi is a joy to use. Much prettier and IMO more usable than the stock one.

I was wondering whether android/GN2 is a viable platform for my needs. Can android users please respond to the following questions:

1. Does android have a openvpn client for routing everything over the remote server?
2. Does android/GN2 have native sip support?
3. Can the sip clients use openvpn as well?
4. Is there a good irc client something like xchat on N900? How is the usability with on screen keyboard.
5. Can it play streaming ogg music (i have my own icecast server)
6. Does it have an openssh server.

Ok, i finally bought GN2 and here are my answers to the questions above:

1. On the play store there is an openvpn client and works quite well even on non-rooted phone. However, only 'tun' interface is supported.
2. There is a very poor 'native' sip support in the dialer. However, there is an application call Csipsimple which is awesome and even supports SRTP/ZRTP. Sip calls are choppiness free unlike N900 (see my signature below).
3. Yes, CSipsimple routes the calls over openvpn.
4. There are some irc clients available, but not as good as xchat. The onscreen keyboard is no match to N900's hardware keyboard. There is a usable keyboard called 'Hackers Keyboard' on google play which provides the full keyboard.
5. This is pathetic on Android. The standard media player cannot even play network streams!. There is a paid application on google play store called xiialive which can play custom icecast urls.
6. Dropbear is available on a rooted device. There is busybox as well available. But out of the box the shell is very poor.

Hi. Although the price has gone up since I got it, you might consider airterm which can make multiple floating terminals, has ssh and a version of busybox for non rooted devices.

Have you considered the *****X IRC client? It is a nicely full featured CLI IRC client that is an OSS staple for many. It is available via 'Terminal IDE' which is a terminal and command line apps (which include busy-box, a bunch of CLI compile tools, etc)..:

More info on *****X here:

... oh, and I totally agree with deb in his recommendation of VX ConnectBot. It works impeccably well, has tons of features, and has great support for external keyboards (something that is oddly lacking in other clients). It's a great tool for local and remote CLI.

Unfortunately the forum censor has killed the link and all references to the IRC client you recommended.

I'm curious as to what it is because I couldn't think of the 5 letter word that could precede X.

The forum censor's a b*tch, isn't it?

Also, I wonder why you'd want to use a terminal IRC client on a fully-touchscreen device. Man, if messing with conf files in vi on Connectbot was painful...

I'd recommend AndChat for IRC on Android.
