Had my N810 for a couple of weeks and loving it...

I'm looking to pick up a Symbian S60 phone such as the N95 over the next couple of weeks as well for on the go internet...

But, usual gripe about lack of PIM with Outlook Sync etc.

It then occured to me that I could perhaps use VNC to access the phone and so in effect manage contacts etc. on the phone itself without ever taking it out of my pocket (I use a bluetooth headset).

I came across some software called mVNC which is available as a quite usable free version (from what i can tell). See http://www.m-shell.net/

Sounds ideal. Just keep syncing the phone with the PC and VNC to it at will. Hard to know how paracticle it would be without trying it. Hookup would need to be quick or not worth it etc.

Problem is, the site says something about having to have a proxy running on the client side if you want to use it over bluetooth (works over WiFi as well). This is to convert from VNC Viewer which uses TCP/IP protocol.

They supply a Proxy for Windows and Linux, but I assume it will only work on an x86 box. No mention of any source anywhere that I could see.

So anyone know enough about this aspect of it to know if there is an alternative way to get the client routed to bluetooth.

Without having to use the proxy software they offer I mean.

I've already emailed them by the way asking if they could make it work for the N810, so will post back if I get a reply etc.

No feedback from the developers I'm afraid. I take it nobody has any idea how to do the forwarding from bluetooth to TCPIP ?

I thought that this would appeal to a number of people. Particularly given how popular Nokia S60 phones are these days.

You could also install the S60 Mobile Web Server. Check it out on betalabs.nokia.com. Of course, you need a wi-fi router to link the two devices. Although an S60 VNC server is an interesting idea.

IMHO it was idiotic not to create some sort of PC Suite client on the tablets that could be Bluetooth driven, given the whole "Nseries" branding.
