Still a far cry from being a deal. Remember when it was 8 bucks a pop? That's what... 14 months ago? Nice bounce back, not one that will be sustained.

I am really curious if this was just a ploy to have Microsoft pony up the money, or serious attempt by Nokia to enter Android market.

He certainly earned it for Microsoft.. makes sense that they'd cover 70% of his pay. He was never on Nokia's side anyway. Right?

I'm not sure about that, since it seems that the board is still favoring him, and Risto Siilasmaa went as far as publically covering up the details in the change of his manager contract.
It looks to me like the whole thing really was rigged from the start so that Nokia would eventually separate from the handset business. In ensuring that mr. E just carried on with the orders from above.

Who's orders though? Ballmer won't be CEO of Microsoft any longer - that's not exactly a reward. Elop is getting a divorce, seems like his personal relationship paid the price. Nokia? Why would the board do that to themselves?

So again, I have to ask. Who's orders did Elop follow?

Orders from the board. They knew they lost the battle and it was time to get good money and do another gig. If that is true, we have a genius board
