In my opinion the higher contrast they introduced now with this update serves the purpose to be able to navigate the phone better even when used outside in sunlight.
But I agree it would be nice to have a setting where the opacity of the dark gradient on the home screens (from top to bottom) could be set manually.

Yeah, https://together.jolla.com/question/...t-on-ambience/
Would be so nice, like also these haha https://together.jolla.com/question/...s-in-one-post/

But Jolla is now sticked to the windows phone "mentality", meaning, no-options-for-users-to-modify-stuff, until OS has matured enough.

HI. Just wondering. Is the multitasking with android apps on jolla phone better than that on the android phone. Android phones are famous (or better, infamous) for killing apps that are minimized or closed from main screen (but not killed) depending on activity of phone. When you close an android app on Jolla phone does it occupy the grid of running apps? Thanks.

Some very goods news coming from Jolla. Seems like they are going to sell hundreds of thousands phones this spring and summer. Thanks to the out of beta status of Sailfish and the increased demand.
New partnerships being announced in the coming weeks.

I know stuff moves around quickly on the internet but how can demand ("jumped quite a bit" ) become much greater after an update that took place yesterday? Just askin'...

On the original article it says that the sales jumped after Ohijärvi.

I'm a bit dubious about that as well. I can't imagine Ohijärvi having too big of a influence on direct sales. At best this could mean that the statement is linked to those partnerships, that would be some major operators or retailers and Jolla finally selling the phone in China.

Actually outside of that I can't understand how the demand could increase so much in the coming months.

My understanding is that Android "multitasking" will work just as on any Android phone, that is, Android will continue to multitask whatever is coded as a service, but if you run a loop on a terminal within Android, that won't multitask, unless the terminal is hacked in such a way that is, well, not a terminal any more :-P

In addition, Android can only render one application at a time, so don't expect a lot of them to be shown in Sailfish's multitasking screen. It has been requested to modify this behaviour in the ACL, but it has also been challenged as there is no point in wasting effort to improve Android's compatibility when you can use it to improve Sailfish itself.

First of all, thanks for translating, that's always appreciated.

I don't get the sales jump either, but then again Jolla has been quiet about real numbers... all we saw were rough estimations based on application downloads, order numbers and so on.

What I understand is: they allegedly aren't taking more orders, but is that true? You can still order a phone online, so go figure... maybe they mean that they can't take new orders in big batches (e.g., Vodafone ES wants 10k devices to sell).

Also, it curious that DNA is allgedly lowering the price of the device - not too worrying as more people can afford it, but what is the real situation?

I guess that we'll just have to wonder, as private companies can keep all these details private :-) I still want the best for them and to remain relatively small for a couple more years (read: don't hire another Elop).

This is a first time I heard about this.

If that lower price is their current 389€, from original 399€, I would not be worried about that. Verkkokauppa.com started selling Jolla for 389 right from the first day. Selling the phone below 10 euros below the suggested price is kind of their thing. So they would be just matching that price.

Toll sell that many phones, there must be some big partnership(s) being brewed. Hopefully this time they will also be realized, rather than just announced.

Gee... I must have gotten a good price. My friend ordered mine in Switzerland.

Shipping & Handling €12.10
Discount (FOSDEM2014) -€40.00

Only problem is that it is still in Switzerland! (till April 14...)
