when I navigate to winflasher_3.12.1.exe in the C: directory I can't use flasher -i. I can only use c:\>winflasher_3.12.1.exe -i. Then I get the following message even after downloading and installing the Nokia cable drivers:

Suitable USB interface (bootloader/phonet) not found, waiting....

Am I doing it right, and if so, how do I get the program to locate a suitable USB interface?

for using flasher command instead of winflasher_3.12.1.exe just rename file to flasher.exe

Does it matter if my phone is security locked. I can't change the mode, it only charges. The reason I'm flashing is because I don't remember the lock code on the phone.

there may be other ways, but anyway, no it shouldnt matter. just try it out.

start the flasher
wait until you see "Suitable"
leave it running
connect the phone via usb
if nothing changes, turn the phone off and turn it back on, while its still connected.

Okay, So I got the little USB in the upper right of the phone and the flasher -i command was successful. However as I was reading the flash directions the phone turned on and I lost connection. Still attempting to get it back, not sure what I did cause I wasn't touching the phone at the time.

I do have a question about the directions. What is this file: emmc.bin I only have one image RM-696. Is there another Image I should download? I didn't see that in the directions.

Edited: So in my RM-696 file I have several .bin files, I have:

rm696_059k114_40.2012.21.3_001_signature.bin also files of the same name with .dcp ext and .vpl ext.

DFL61_HARMATTAN_40.2012.21-3_PR_LEGACY_005-OEM1-958_ARM.bin

and two simlock_maemo files.

What file am I supposed to use once I get back connected?

note that it is quite likely that you do not want to flash your EMMC. {not necessary for just reflashing the OS to unlock it, and you might want to keep your MyDocs as it is}

if you DO want to flash your emmc, find this file and use it {firmware independent}:
DFL61_HARMATTAN_40.2012.13-7.NOMAPS_EMMC_NOMAPS.bin

as for RM696, depending on your model number, you want something that looks like this:
DFL61_HARMATTAN_40.2012.21-3_PR_LEGACY_001-OEM1-958_ARM.bin

all this info is, in fact, in that {admittedly massive} thread.

Sorry, must have missed that, I've been pouring over so many threads for days trying to get this to work. I really appreciate your help though!

Thanks guys, so far so good I think. this is what I see now:

Found device RM-696, hardware revision 1
NOLO version 2.3.6
Version of 'sw-release': DFL61_HARMATTAN
Sending ape-algo image (7096 kB)...
100% (7096 of 7096 kB, avg. 29084 kB/s)

and a flashing cursor with no directory. Is is still going?
