I've been looking around for a good task manager for some time. I was amazed that a good version of such a seemingly simple application had yet been produced for Maemo, and I was a bit dissapointed that my 5 year old Palm Pilot functioned better as a to do list.

So anyway I finally came across one that functions pretty well as a simple task manager, it needs a few tiny bug fixes, but it works better (at least for my purposes) than the only other alternative I've found - GPE To-do list. GPE Todo list works, but it suffers from some pretty major bugs and a poor interface. While Tasks has most of the core functionality down well and has a very clean interface.

Anyway... Tasks doesn't seem to be very popular at all... so I wanted to spread it in the hopes that some of you looking for a good to do list will be as satisfied with it as I am. And maybe if more of us are using it, the author will be more likely to do some updates/feature improvements.

Here is the generic page for Tasks, which runs across a few platforms - http://www.pimlico-project.org/tasks.html

Here is the link for the one click installer for your N800/N810 running OS2008 - http://pimlico-project.org/tasks-maemo.install

I just installed all 3 of the apps they have available, Dates Tasks and Contacts. There is also a sync app, but it is not available yet.

They look good. Contacts ties into the built in contacts information, allowing you to add more fields. Calendar has a web based function that I have not found any documentation for, but it looks interesting.

It's a project of Opened Hand, who looks to be a developer for Nokia

update: Dates will read a ical feed, which Google calendars support. It is a read-only feed, but it works.

The only problem I've been having with the contacts IS that it ties in to the built in contacts program. I cant seem to delete out of the O-hand contacts without deleting out of he built in. This is very annoying when you add you IM contacts to the built in contacts...

pity their repo is broken. THey say they have 2007 packages, but their repo instructions fail and deeper investigation shows it's quite incompatible with maemo in the repo setup.

hope they get sync working soon, and make it able to sync with syncml enabled phones.

The Task program is quite good, but sadly there's no easy way to sync the stuff. A simple and quite adequate sync feature would have been the ability to import an ICS file from a URL and write to it. That way, my Toodledo.com list would be accessible in the Tasks program. But for now I'll just keep using the Toodledo web interface (the iPhone version works quite well on the N800).
