I think I remember seeing someone in the "post your desktop screenshots" thread that had a really awesome equalizer.

Oh, and does anyone have some really bad static feedback on the right side of their speaker when playing music or sound files fairly loud?

Try playing back audio from various software and see if it's just related to the default player. The default player on my n810 is very quiet and fuzzy.
