Well, at this point, I need something usable before September. So no waiting for vaporware.
One thing I need to do is record an hour or two of video at a time(external battery pack OK) at the end of September. My N900 seems to crash after a couple of minutes; might just need DSP voltage boosted or something.

I seem to have two options:
1. There is a guy selling the Photon q on Ebay with the sim mod done, loaded with whatever OS for $165. This would work as-is.

2. I can get a cheap Photon Q for $40, "Unknown ESN", which would work good for videos(I think), but would need another device for my phone, unless I can sim-hack it. And I don't know if I can do it myself...
It's cheap enough to try, though.

3. I can get another N900 for around $100, one with a good cellmodem, and use that for my calls. Might even be able to get the video recording to work well.

4. Something else entirely?

Thoughts?

Actually, I'm thinking if you need to reliably record video for long periods of time, whether it might not be worth it to choose a device specifically designed for that (i.e., a camcorder or a digital camera). As long as the data ends up sitting on an SD card (or you can hook the device up via USB or whatever), you can move the video onto a more convenient portable computer after it does the job for you.

S6 Edge Plus will be announced tomorrow with likely almost immediate availability. So we'll see if there is a a combined case and hard keyboard for it as an option.

Back to the drawing board on that idea.
Seriously... An overlay for the screen? Talk about totally missing the point of a hardware keyboard....

Y'know...It's stuff like that keyboard...that makes me soooo mad.
Because if Microsoft wants to really grab the world by the short and curlies..
This is exactly the kinds of things they should be making.
It makes them relevant.
It means everyone wants their product because it works across the board for every device...
Plain and simple.
And it ticks me off that they aren't making EVERYTHING like that.
If they keep it up and make more and more universal periphs. and devices....
I'll have no choice but ..
to start "actually" liking and admiring microsoft and their principals again..
eeeyeewww!

True. I consider the single best product by Microsoft the original MS Mouse.
As a SW company they are a fail but when they decide to make HW it usually is pretty nice.
