Okay. A friend of mine has been asking me some ?'s about my 770, some of them which I can't answer. My friend uses Windows, and has a WiFi network in his house. He wants to know, if he buys a 770, will it show up under the "My Network Connections", so that he can transfer files to and from his PC. I really can't answer this, 'cause I use Linux, and always transfer via the USB port.

No, it will not, definitely.

It _is_ possible to install additional software (either ssh or smbclient) that will allow file transfer between the 770 and a Windows PC through the network, but if he's never used Linux before, that may prove a bit much for your friend.

He can't use USB like you? Samba will do the trick, but seems like overkill.

He could also setup an FTP server on his Windows box... Really, I've never had a reason to have my 770 visible on my network.

I usually do it by NFS mount through an NFS server installed on Linux. No problems up till now (except for the portmap etc. that keeps needing a lot of time to mount :-( )

- use the USB cable
- use a card reader on the windows machine, transfer the MMC card
- connect both machines, wireless, to the internet; use any sevice provided there. Some examples: you email account; box.net or any other.
- bluetooth should allow a direct connection, haven't tried it, though.

Use cygwin on windows,, and install the NFS Server package

Okay. He's not computer illiterate, so he should be able to use cygwin. I'd kinda forgotten that was out there. Thanks for the help.

Use a card reader. It's fast and a no brainer.
