U funny man!
ach...
Maemish....
don't fret it...
everyone is watched...(and anyone who scoffs ...should really check what JUST the USA has as far as storage facilities for data...even I found it startlingly impressive...and to greater or lesser degrees , other nations as well...so yeah ...everyone is being watched...)
however...just because there is most likely a file on virtually everyone who can connect to the web....doesn't mean that any agency or law enforcement has the ability TO watch everyone...
They just aggregate data on everyone...use the sum total of it to figure out social issues, trends etc...
, use specific data to track and monitor those who actually are on their radar...
As far as watching you specifically ...
perhaps you did show up on their radar after what you did..and for a little perhaps you were watched, just to make sure you weren't a threat of some kind...
But ..
If anything you have been dismissed and relegated to the "Tinfoil Hat Brigade" ...Maemish...and really...it is for the best...
As far as being safe using Linux...
It is safer than windows, safer than apple,
but in the end it is what you have IN that distro you are running ...and what hardware you are running it on...
The only safe linux is one that is officially Stallman gnu approved, on hardware that can be totally worked to being open...and those are still some very few machines...(I have a lenovo laptop that meets that requirement with parabola on it ...for example...I don't use it much...but it is secure....I also don't allow it connectivity ...thus ensuring security...and so only use it for specific work ...and personal...that I wish to KNOW is private...and safe...otherwise I have about 5 or 6 other distros I enjoy working and playing with normally...on other laps....)
And so ultimately the only safe distro, the only safe computer or device...is one that isn't connected to the outside world.
as far as "safe" distros go...
there are some more paranoid than others...like TAILS ...and such..
you could build your own debian respin that fits such needs...
There is another that I really like...it is seriously paranoid ...can't recall the name off the top of my head...it isn't a standard distro that you see at distrowatch...I am sure I'll remember it...
In the end though...
It is about connectivity...
the non free stuff you have on your system,
the browser you use.
the places you go.
the people you know who even mention you on social media.
the security you have...
and remember, just because one has something like TOR or a VPN or both...doesn't mean you are secure...there is more to it than just a couple functions or programs...
and in the end it is really about allowance.
allowing certain things to creep into your "needs" based communications.
social media, certain functions, programs or apps that are almost universally used that doing without them hamstrings one's ability to stay connected, or be productive, or stay informed...
Just gotta know that whatever you put out there...there is always a record of ..
whatever you put on a system that has connectivity, is a compromised system ...already...
So just keep your "My Little Pony" personal photo collection, dialogue, purchases, musings, etc...in an offline secure system...
and never use an un-secure system to mention or surf or travel anywhere online and speak of it...
I do the very same with my "Barbie Doll" collection...
ooops!...
hell...
now "They" know about my "barbie Doll" fixation.
