Who know if it's true, but make a lot of sense. Hopefully doesn't ruin the company future.

I think they would had got more sponsoring money if the had told the truth instead release yet another product such as libremONE. I mean who the heck beleived in that? It was clear that they did that just because they needed more cash. And it is even more clear after reading those posts.

Let us see how this story will end.
"Your Librem 5 smartphone [ ] is being prepared for shipment to you in the next few weeks!"
Though something, that remains rather vapor vague ...

"If you would like our full standard warranty, let us know and we can move you to the Evergreen batch."
So one should better skip Chestnut and Dogwood too?

“Their laptop campaign had over 65% return rate, I heard closer to 70%.”
Serious!?

If so I must correct myself. Indeed ...

Even if it's only me who's getting sarcastic, I do fear that this flurry of bad press is bound to cause a laptop sales slump, an employee stampede, ... (which ever first) ...
So is Purism buying time instead of selling products?

It seems to be mostly quoting and/or paraphrasing stuff we've seen already in the last few weeks. It's hard to tell if it's corroborating or rehashing, which is the crucial thing here.

Nonetheless, I am getting concerned if I'll ever see my device. Why the Hell do I participate in crowdfunding after my experiences? I'm way into "shame on me" territory . . .

Personally after so much of this behaviour from start ups, now I don't pay any serious attention to them at all.
Nor do I even court the thought of throwing money their way.

Companies that develop and produce a device for sale , however...
I do pay close attention to.
Pinetab, Pinephone and Pinewatch ...are on my radar.
And when Pinephone is ready I will be seriously considering purchase.
NOTE: I said "purchase" , not "fund", "support" or in any other guise "give" money to a flashy website designed "promise" of something..."if only there were enough donations to complete this dream come true device"
But never again will I ever throw hard earned money at grifters looking for easy marks.

The problem is there are too many phantom pegasi flitting about ...
Someone pass me a saw ...
what is needed are some solid horses ...

Buying time?

Probably waiting for their neighbor "the tech giant from Mountain View" to step in and purchase the whole shop to "strengthen their foothold in the market of privacy oriented mobile devices".

I was so in the Market for this but I gave chance to European companies hopefully they would do better, but Jolla, Neo900 projects are still to satisfy my cravings.

Looking lovingly at a N900 on the table within hand reach, another one attached to the aux of the new useless DAB kitchen radio. Useless because hey, DAB+ is new and better-another early adopter rip off and it happens to also struggle with FM reception. In steps the N900 - the crazy idea of having excellent internet radio capability built in. Easy? No. This N900 internet radio has the buffer (thnx to foresight of Nokia Software engineers) that makes your radio stream flow uninterrupted on the remotest lousiest internet connections in the global world.

I share the home with someone with the latest software updated iPhone 11 Pro. It's crazy good for some of my most desired user cases.
Although late to the game -Apple could have made this 6 years ago- It makes me drool for its great computer meets camera capabilities and software support.
But mostly for all other reasons than the aspects we are after here it is unusable starting with the interface that surprise surprise seems to have finally stolen -sorry, reinvented & improved- a couple of swipe moves from the Nokia N9 making it more bearable year after year.

Sorry for hijacking this thread with some random musings but I also jump to see if any substantial info shows up on Librem 5 & FxTec Pro1, if the Maemo Leste thread stays out of the picture that is.

Yes, let's.
Currently, that would be the first actual, real, more or less independent, review of the Librem 5 in the wild (that I have come across - correct me if I'm wrong).

I must say I am enormously put off by this:

Note: This is an early batch that might have hardware problems and has a limited warranty. If you agree to this batch, you are accepting that risk and understand that you will not be able to exchange it for a later batch when they come out.
Is this normal with crowdfunding stuff? Early backers actually get worse quality hardware, for all the faith - and money - they put into the project?

PS: +1 for pine64, their devices might not be better, but definitely cheaper, and they don't make false promises.

Prototypes should be collectors items / later museum pieces ,not being sold to early backers as prove of ability to deliver ..something.

endso: I think that is the device alright but the models of the appearance for them are just awesome. Like put together a C64 and a smartphone. I think they could be seen at the mega65.org.
