It is firbidden to talk about religion here on the forum. First I didn't understand why, but then I understood that being a follower of N900 and putting your trust in maemo is an exclusive religion which does not accept other religions in it's sanctuary.

4. Disable watchdog

5. Install swappolube and use proposed settings

6. Install ssu tuner and put transitions to zero

Should not be that slow anymore.

But even with these it is slower than new phones which open web pages straight and can do hard processing stuff fast. But what can you do, really? N900 is the best device ever made. To give up with N900 is also a compromise as is using N900. This is my main phone but I use some other devices for things I can't do with N900. It is still my main phone.
thanks for helping, showing concern. n900 is the best device even made but honestly n900 has its hardware limitations. i used n900 for like 8 years, i know stuff.
i used to think that i would flash maemo7 on my n900 some day and that would solve everything but no. all we need what i believe is some sbc based phone supporting maemo7 with all that usb ports and fancy computer stuff. maemo7 does support raspberry pi 2 i think . n900 is a glorious past, "but things change, and that's the way it is".

I do notice it is so slow. Not sure if its the way things are today and its just out of date, but I don't remember it taking so long to do something.

Apps I use on N900 in 2022:

Telegram: MPGram (lightweight Telegram web client) and Telegram-cli from Extras-devel (CLI solution). Here is icon and shortcut I created (adds icon to apps menu).

Browser: I like built-in MicroB most. It's fast, renders pages well and works well with Nginx tweak. Opera Mobile for more features like selecting text.

E-mail: Built-in client. Supports Gmail and Yandex with manual settings and app password. Also MicroB can open old HTML version of Gmail and displays it really well (you will need stylus for comfortable browsing though )

Camera: BlessN900

RSS: FeedingIt is great app, loads most of feeds for me.
If you can't load feed because of lack of TLS 1.2/1.3 - add http://nnp.nnchan.ru/glype/browse.php?u= before feed URL, it will make feed processed by proxy.

Maps: Nokia Maps with maps downloaded from http://nokiamaps.ct8.pl. Use version 00.01.29.100.
Sygic Mobile Maps is second option. How to install -> https://t.me/maemomeegoapps/77

Kernel: last Kernel Power, battery patch and power patch.
That overclocks N900 to 805 MHz.

Bootmenu: U-Boot, it allows me to have three systems.
https://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=101338

Music player: SomePlayer, works much better than default for me.

Video player: SMPlayer / mplayer. SMPlayer is basically front-end for command-line mplayer.

YouTube: JTube (YT client for Java ME working via phoneME emulator, supports only downloading videos)
https://openrepos.net/content/wunderwungiel/jtube
And iteroni.com as light YouTube front-end (Invidious instance).

MMS: fMMS should be solution, but it doesn't work for me with correct settings
