I am the opposite, in that the n800 was unappealing to me as it didn't have the metal cover of the n770. I would hate to think how the n800 would have survived the abuse the 770 has had.

But you didn't have to flip the metal cover everytime you used it, right? You could leave it sitting on your desk with the cover off or reversed, and pick it up and use it in handy slate form-factor. The bulk of an open clamshell gets in the way, so I'm pretty sure I would always be closing it. To me, a slide-on cover is good; ditching the convenience of one-hand use, sitting flat on a table, and the like is not.

True, if it was on the desk I wouldn't flip the cover around (although I always put the cover on when I am not using it for a while).
Didn't I see in one of those photos that the screen rotates around over the keyboard?

Let's hope the speakers are good enough, so you can have it on your shoulder and blare out 80s rap songs as you walk down the park in a tanktop

Yeah, it does look a lot less retro on their site. BUT ... it still has the hellishly thick side rails.

If they make a version that is thinner, and doesn't have windows on it ... maybe I'll consider it.

Pretty sure not; all I saw was that it closes to a phone form-factor, and then you can use the external display.
If it would, I'd be so happy with it.

It's available with either Windows or some-wierdly-named-distro Linux. And they ain't so thick; half-way through one inch is only a half inch, and they're no more than that. Don't think it'll be an issue. When I hold my N800 for two-thumb tapping on the on-screen keyboard, my thumbs are up at a high enough angle to clear that easily.

On that picture a few posts up, isn't that what the image on the top right shows? I must admit I can't work out if it is a single screen or a dual sided. I am guessing it is supposed to be a single screen that can be the keyboard or a plain screen, but the bezel is different in each image for it to be the same screen. I am guessing this is because it is just a photoshop job, and I admit it is hard to reconcile the images from the website with the image of the real device!

i suspect that they are going for a similar setup to the htc shift, but with a choice of windows ce or some kind of linux distro on the "phone" side of the device.

and im one of those people that like this much more then the minimalism that goes for "high fashion" these days.

but i fear that just like some of samsungs most interesting mobile products, this will not show up outside of south korea...

oh, and about that phone stuff check the video:
