I posted this as follow up questions to older gngeo threads in some of the other forums, but it really belongs here.
(I'm not trying to spam post, I just realized that no one in the other boards would probably care, since it's a game question)

And since I know at least arnims has looked at the code (Although I'm not sure if TAK reads this group. See, I do my research.. :-), I figured it was worth a shot.

Anyway, I just set up gngeo on my 770.

It was a bit tricky to set up, especially considering the multiple BIOS and ROM versions out there. What a mess!!! I still don't think I have it all figured out (which versions of the roms (MAME or NeoRage?), but I have one rom working. Art of Fighting.

Now, I wasn't expecting too much. I mean, I have gnuboy, and it works OK, but a tad sluggish. So, this, being a more advanced system...

Well, it plays incredibly well! And, with sound!!

So, I go to exit the game, and I hit the esc key, and he punches. Hmmm

I finally have to hit the Home key, which of course leave the screen all messed up. Sometimes it's black, and hard to get back. But I manage to reboot.

I find the config file, and yep, esc is mapped to the C button I think.

I try changing the number 27 to something else (0), and esc is no longer button C, but it still won't allow me to exit.

Now, I watch the video on you tube of the xgngeo frontend, and this guy is exiting no problem with his n800 (or was it an 810?), but his camera isn't far enough back to see what he's doing to exit.

I see something about a key combination to bring up a menu on the gpx version, but it involves R+L+Select, and I can't hit R+L at the same time, and attempts just don't seem to work.

This is a great emulator, but I'd love to be able to exit without having to reboot.

I found one other person on this board that was having this problem and he posted (in the troubleshooting section) about it, but there was no reply.

So, is it just a weird fluke? Does it just work that way? Might it be an easy fix?

Thanx in advance..

p.s. If you haven't tried it yet, it's a real hassle getting going for the first time. But, I think it's worth it.

Ok,
It looks like hitting the Home button is exiting, but it is leaving the 770 in pixel double mode.
Just like quake did before pipeline fixed it.

I have a quirky workaround. I call it from a script that launches the game, and then does a "sudo init 6" to reboot.

arnims, any chance of you or tak fixing that?

I just dl'd the 2.2 vm maemo scratchbox, but I think it might be a bit before I figure out how to use it.

Or if there is another option???

Thanks

Fixed!!!!!
I got it to compile (actually, the ./configure was the tricky part) and added the xsp disable code, and it exits nicely on my 770!

It still uses the home key to exit, but I'll change that next.

I have to fix that because, although it exits ok now, if I use xgngeo to launch it, xgngeo is gone when I exit, but it's still running.

If there's a place to put it, or someone wants a copy, just let me know.

Big thanks to Pipeline for the help!

OK, I set up a really basic web page, and plunked it there. :-)
It's just the executable. So, you'll have to have gngeo installed (and working preferably) first.
Then you can download this, extract it, and copy it over your original (backup or rename first!) /usr/bin/gngeo

I haven't even looked at packaging stuff yet. :-)

p.s. I realized that while I remapped esc to the exit key, if you hit the Home key, it still goes back to the desktop. It just continues to run AND leave the desktop in pixel doubled mode. For now, the fix was to make esc AND Home quit the game. The only issue is that if you use xgngeo to launch it, when you exit with esc, you're good. If you exit with Home, you close gngeo, but it returns to you HOME desktop, putting xgngeo in the background. But, it isn't integrated with the desktop, so you can never get back to it.
I uploaded a new version that has both buttons as exit.

ALSO, I've had it happen about 4 or 5 times (and I've run it alot recently, but it happens) when, when I load gngeo, I can only see the top 2 rows maybe (or 3) of pixels, but everything else is a black screen. Everything is still working, just a black screen. Problem is it stays that way, even when you exit. Only way I have found to fix it is to pull the battery. The original (non-tweaked by me) version did that to me as well. It's very intermittent, so I have no idea what the problem might be, and it's probably well beyond my skills. Just a heads up.
