I'm pleased to announce that I finally figured out how to set up/use Scratchbox, and have compiled Crimson Fields (it even loads)! I'll get packages made as soon as I figure out the easiest way to to that. What's the best distribution method for these packages?

EDIT: Freeciv 2.1.4 is compiled and running (or walking, but not crawling) as well!

I'm just going on what I prefer, but having a garage project set up seems to make things simpler (and I am all about the one click install). When they are a little more than half baked, can you get a one button install from maemo too?

I don't now what that takes (for either step) but for me, installing from them without having to check dependencies or do a red pill mode makes things so much easier to try out.

I've seen a lot of packages that I want to try that leave me stymied when the installer tells me there are dependencies left that I don't have, (and of course, it doesn't tell me how to install those dependencies!)

I may be naive (alright, let's call a black pot a kettle... I am naive (mixing metaphors and trying not to offend anyone)). But making it simpler to install means I am much more likely to check it out and give any feedback I have. Hope that helps.

Nice . I had to reformat my comp to get scratchbox working :/

A deb always helps, look into ArnimS or ukki's packages to see how they move any game data files to a FAT formatted memory card.

Better compile the SDL version of Freeciv , runs better.

Thanks all.

The Freeciv I compiled does use the SDL frontend.

Get releasing so we can update this page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crimson_Fields

:P

If you can't get round to a deb, a tar is fine with me . But when compiling, I just set configure prefix to /usr and edit rules file to remove clean section because I find letting dpkg-buildpackage compile something fails for me sometimes for some unknown reason when configure & make works fine.
