..Why the hell did they spend so much time on a new Application Installer, when Nokia isn't offering any meaningful packages to download and install with it?

I'm getting a little impatient with Nokia. I paid $300 for this thing, and honestly, i'm starting to feel like I got jipped. I expected a helluvalot more when it came to availability of software.

Rather than step up and be the primary provider of applications, they're throwing a bone at the Linux community hoping we'll develop for them. Not cool.

You're crazy. I think I got 300 worth of stuff with this device...and more. There's some things I like to have, but I'm not disappointed with what I got so far...and more to come.

Ah, what would we do without the crazies of the world? Seriously, for $300 you got a pocket sized Linux computer that can connect wirelessly to the Internet (2 ways), high-res screen, with the ability to view images, video (locally or streaming), pdfs, notes, and more. You can listen to music (locally or streaming), there's simple games, chat/voip client, RSS reader, email, calculator, clock (with customizable alarm), and that's just in the software you get right out of the box.

There are a lot of developers (of varrying levels) that are working extra hard to port/build/optimize software for the 770 because it's such a unique device, and because it was started as an open platform it will become strong as more people use, test, and build the software that makes it an even better platform.

Yeah, it's a chicken-egg debate, but we are all chickens/eggs that can and will play our part. Okay, I don't know if that made any sense, but you get the idea.

I was greatful to finally be able to have an affordable embedded linux device. I had looked at the zaurus for a long time but just could bring myself to spend 600$.

I did spend

$350.00 Internet tablet COMPUSA
$72 1GB SANDISK RSMMC buy.com
$113 Nokia SU-W8 English bluetooth keyboard mobileplanet.com
$89 i-blue gps somewhere online, same place thoughtfix got his

Total
------
$624, OK so I could have gotten a zaurus, and had a crappy screen and no GPS and no real keyboard, no bluetooth

Seriously what were you expecting!!, This this is awesome, and I can't wait to see what the next hardware will look like. I was worried about the progression of the software being ported to 2006, but those worries were proven unfounded by all the hard work the developers and others helping recompile and port existing applications. Its been eight days since the OS was released -- QUIT YER *****IN

People are waiting (were waiting until TODAY, WOOHOO!), for the new OS2006 before writing/porting a lot of stuff due to changes in code and whatnot. I'm sure Nokia will add their own apps pretty soon to come now...

I have a zaurus. I am selling it. I had a 770 about a year ago, sold it, went the zaurus route (a 3100, pdaxrom, etc.) and am now back on a new 770. My interests are solely writing software for the device. I personally feel the 770 has more to offer, and there is a good amount of software out right now on the 770.

The whole problem with the zaurus is that even though it can run xmms, matchbox, rox, firefox.. they are all painfully slow since many are unoptimized ports. Plus ofcourse there is no built-in wifi or bt, and adding even a small form-factor card drains battery and makes it hard to type on the keyboard.

Just my 2c..

Again, why did you expect more? it was never advertised to do more!...sorry, it just irks me when people constantly point out all the things that the 770 doesn't do...it does a LOT more than it was advertised to do, and yet people still manage to find a reason to complain.

If that's the case, here goes.

It doesn't make me coffee in the morning, what was nokia thinking!
How am I supposed to open my garage door!? No built in remote features?!? screw it I'm returning it.
Woah woah woah...you mean to tell me this internet tablet that does everything it was advertised to do...will NOT give me head after work! Oh, I feel like I've just been scammed!

I'm done.
