I've been trying to work this out all morning, and for all the searching and scratching, I'm no further on.

I've used ssh root@localhost
and when it asks for password, I've entered rootme (as I've read so many times) but this pw doesn't work (I just get permission denied).
I've never set a password on my N800, only ever use xterm today.

I'm begining to wish I'd never said what a great device this is, as since then I've been unable to use Application Manager, or USB, and its really beginning to annoy me.

Cheers

Install easyroot.

Type 'root'.

I'd love to, but I can't install anything, due to application manager not working... and I was told to log on as root to fix App. Manager.... you see my circle of frustration.

Help

It sounds like it's time for an OS reflash

Try disabling the application catalogues one by one. I find that some of them don't play nice.

I don't think "I can't refresh App Manager" is synonymous with "App Manager doesn't work".

You can delete ALL your repositories and see if you can refresh App Manager then, or you can disable all of them or a few at a time. I like to be extreme about it because it doesn't require much patience. The Gronmayer site was great for making it easy to add repositories back in, but it's down now.

Thanks for all your help.
I managed 'finally' to get my N800 flashed, and apart from a few odd quirks everything is back running smoothly.

Cheers
