Well, I'm now running the latest diablo like I said I would.

I updated with a custom chinook kernel compiled by yours truly and my custom diablo initfs and it went fine.

I had to.

At least I can prove I'm running devil edition and I can change version to something else rather than <unknown>.

Installed this latest Diablo SSU on my N810, and I saw the same results as is now becoming typical - flash-and-reboot wouldn't allow my device to boot, and re-flashing the old Chinook kernel fixes it. (The Diablo initfs, as always, works fine.)

Thanks for the compliment (I consider it a honor to to be called a fanoush ) but I will never be like him

He can program, his kernel work etc is brilliant. I just like to do simple things here and there

As for the initfs and kernel thing, set up a repo on a mmc where the initfs-flasher and kernel-flasher versions will always be higher than the ones from the diablo update site and repack the debs with your own initfs and kernel. (I'm still running the 2nd updated diablo initfs (2008-20), not my first (2008-17) and not the latest updated initfs.

Why? I've done too much modifications to this one. I've even got bootmenu installed (which fanoush won't support yet, can't blame him with it being a beta and this is like the third initfs release yet which still won't flash on N800), made it a bit more colourful (pic and mod by the great KotCzarny) and installed the framebuffer stuff into it.

And I still use my Chinook kernel as that one has more features then you can throw at a stick! ©

Actually, I may end up stripping the latest one reluctantly as I want to make it not boot with framebuffer (a fanoush creation - I'd have never have been able to do it )

This is nice, any link to the mod? Configurable colors might be useful. Black is good when switching to framebuffer console.

BTW, I'm shy and flattery makes me a bit uneasy, I'm trying to ignore it :-)

It's based off a old version of bootmenu though, I had to manually integrate it into your newest.

- You are a brilliant guy with an attitude like that. (not like me, I'm conceited and cocky when I find something out . My sig is proof enough...)

Well, I did an update just now; worked fine, rebooted into Diablo fine; then again, I have no trouble with soft-poweroff, and GA has the same as Chinook. I think it depends how you installed your particular illegitimate offspring of Diablo what effects you get...

@qwerty12:
Regarding that color mod, I'm planning one better... but I'm not sure it'll work. Is there any real benefit to switching over to the diablo initfs? If so, I might switch to that before I do any real custom work...

Do I infer correctly that you wrote some stuff to the config partition to make the version change? I've been interested in setting rd-flags from the device, and it looks like you might be headed that way...

The colours are configurable. Not really TBH, except for some new modules and some tools. But they aren't used for the N800/N810, it's only loaded for the N810W. Still I use it for completeness and I'm gonna update my modifications to the latest diablo initfs.
