after years of people ignoring my skype out calls because my number doesn't show on their caller ID, skype has finally fixed the problem. skype still needs to add a customer service department, but this is a huge step. here is the story:

now if i could just send and recieve SMS on this thing without a mobile...

i tested this out, and it works. my friends are surprised that my name shows up when i call. i think this is a big deal. is there any reason to own a landline in the US anymore? some people like me who are around wifi a lot don't even need a cell phone. and what about businesses? why isn't skype making a big deal about this? i would have never found out except for the obscure story i happened upon.

humm, did you change your account settings? you gave to sign into your account and click a box or add a phone number you want to show on the id. only mobile numbers work, i think.

Just to let you know, adding the caller ID number substracted 20 cents from my $10 credit, because it sends a message to your cell phone during setup.

Hey Den, that only happens once, during setup, right? I guess they just want to confirm, once, that the number you put in is a phone you have physical access to..
If so, sounds like a good 20 cent investment to me! if my assumption is correct..

And note, you have to use a mobile number for this to work. I don't have a mobile number. So I can't set this up.

In theory, you can set up your Skype Account using a friend's cell phone for caller ID. You must of course, let your contacts know that the cell phone number that you give them to enter into their cell phone directory is not a valid call-out cell phone number. When you use Skype to call their cell phone, the cell phone number you provided them just links that number to a name (yours). To take it one step further, in theory, have them enter that cell phone number as your fax number, rather than your cell phone number.
