Hey i just got my 1st ever internet tablet on sat and dont really have any idea what to do with it over the email. I got it from my girlfreind dad, so i had no info on it before i got it.

I have been trying to set my Hotmail account up with it. I have put in the setting i think are right

Account name : ME
Account type : pop3

Name : Me
User name : Thatkid
Password : My hotmail pass
Email : my hotmail address

Incoming server (pop3) : HTTP
Outgoing server (SMTP) : HTTP

Use connection-specific smtp servers : no tic

and i click finish.

Anyone know what i am doing wrong, i cant get anything working

Any help would be great

Don't you use hotmail the same way I use Yahoo mail?

That is, you go to www.hotmail.com and put in your user name and password.

You don't fill out any forms.

That needs to be Hotmail's POP3/SMTP server as a web address. If they offer POP3 access, Microsoft will have instructions on their site. edit: they don't offer POP3 access. Get Gmail.

I think he's asking about POP3 access using the built in mail client on the N810.

Just to check, you DO have a subscription to whatever the paid Hotmail is right? If you do then they should give you a pop server address, something like "pop.hotmail.com" that you should put in the "server" box instead of "HTTP"

From what I'm reading the "HTTP" approach no longer works and NEVER worked with any email client except for Outlook Express.

My suggestion is to either upgrade to a paid account or set your hotmail account to forward to a gmail account and then set your tablet up to retrieve from there

OR

You can use the web interface at http://www.hotmail.com/ which should work just fine, or even better, just switch to Gmail. You'll be much happier all around

Contrary to other misleading information, the 'Hotmail Plus' option does not include POP3 access to Hotmail or MSN mailboxes.

Whoops, my bad. They do offer it as part of some paid subscription service though don't they?
