If you choose the OEM and the N810 adapter the site will let you go standard mail shipping, which works out to $11 international (I believe, it's somewhere around there anyways). Here's the link for the OEM one just to be safe:

Rob, I did pick up the retail one first, saw a *higher* shipping price than the one I quoted, deleted that from the cart, grabbed the OEM one, and got the price you saw.

Just to check, I'll try again...

Nope, same deal. Cart definitely contains OEM dongle and n810 tail, shipping price definitely contains heart attack

I'll talk to you with PM.

Hey everyone, I just learned a new trick from paulkoan over here. It seems that if you are having trouble getting your N8x0 to recognize your USB devices (especially if they are plugged into a powered hub), run lsusb as root. That seems to do the trick for me!

Where can one find isusb? Google didn't get it for me.

That's "lsusb", as in "LiSt USB", not "isusb". It's a command line (X Terminal) application, and it should be installed on your tablet already.

Yes, I just figured it out. I guess I need to change the font on my N800. When I read it with my EeePC, it's clearly an 'l', but it looks like an 'i' on the N800.

Ok, just an update. It isn't just lsusb. I think there's an issue with cheap powered hubs and the N800. Here's what I have to do:
1. attach hub without power, get it recognized by tablet. ("USB Hub not supported" is a weird success message)
2. attach power to hub
3. attach device to hub
4. run lsusb as root

EDIT: You gotta do it in this order, and you gotta get a message about USB Hub. My tablet reboots if I don't do it right.

This method also seems to disable all of the N8x0's auto-USB stuff (the USB icon even disappears!), so the device is connected, but you're on your command-line own!

I managed to get my wifi usb stick to come online this way.

I also managed to get a stubbornly unresponsive $6 nGear card reader to work this way. I had to go an extra step, however, since there's no auto-mounting magic once you cross the dark lsusb threshold:
mount /dev/sda1 /media/usb/sda1 -t vfat
And it mounted!

EDIT2: I can do this:

umount /media/usb/sda1
...swap out the card in the card reader, and then do the mount line again, and I've got the new card mounted!

Wow interesting to see that it works... I should retry that cheap junkie nGear combo hub/card reader that I have kicking around (or rather that I kick around regularly) just to see if it works like this; personally though this is one of those things that while it's interesting to see that it's possible, it's also kind of an indication of the whole "get what you pay for" mantra; sure it's possible to get the cheapest USB hub around to work, but for a few extra bucks why not just get one that works properly the first time?

My technical bet, btw, would be that the nGear/cheap hubs/etc aren't doing power negotiation properly/at all, or aren't identifying themselves properly to the Kernel when you first power them up (maybe they take a second or two to power before they can communicate properly?), thus the system is rejecting them on hotplug. When you do an lsusb you're forcing a re-probe of the USB bus and essentially causing any inactive but connected equipment to re-negotiate with the Kernel. That's my thought at least...

BTW off topic (or on topic, not quite sure!) the USB 360 adapters should be available in the next day or two... and Solio chargers are coming soon ;o)

Thanks,
-Rob

Just an update for all who are interested: The USB 360 degree adaptors are now available:
http://www.electronicproductonline.c...oducts_id=2007
These things are just plain out cool... don't get confused with the knock-offs btw (i.e. the cablesToGo version) that only pivot on one axis; this bad boy goes all the way around in all directions. Perfect for use on the tablets with the OTG adaptor, ESPECIALLY with the wired network adaptors like the USB100M.

Thanks!

Hi All,

Just a sneak-peak/update to get some feedback... after long hours of negotiations and hard work I've finally got a prototype of "N800 USB OTG mark II". The adapter is a full 360 degree, just like the current 360's, but has a factory produced OTG mini connector instead of the regular male A (for those who didn't like the "marks" on my current modified connectors these will be 100% untouched externally). I have not decided yet as to whether I will go through with this (I'm waiting on manufacturing cost estimates), as the N800 is becoming a little more scarce these days and a lot of people seem to have been happy enough with the regular OTG adapters, but I am waiting to receive my prototype of this same new adapter but with a Micro USB A for use with the N810/future tablets.

Oh, and at a few people's requests (you know who you are) I'm also going to be offering "OTG-ready" mini pigtails... buy one, solder or splice it onto your favourite device, and you're OTG all the time!

Thoughts and feedback?

Thanks,
-Rob

That looks quite nice; it makes me glad I forgot the 360 connector I had meant to include in the last order. (That order just got here; everything's in good shape, they look even nicer than the original, and I haven't yet tried everything out. Another satisfied customer, or at least a customer satisfied another time!) If costs are reasonable, I'm definitely interested.

If it's not too much trouble, any chance of some shots of one of these on an N800? I'm curious how this with a thumb-drive, net adapter, or whatever fits around the back, and what sort of kickstand clearance, etc.

One thought: might the production ones be better with one connector the other way up? It looks like you couldn't wrap a USB100M tight around the back, because the ethernet connector would wind up on the tablet side... then again, maybe the RJ-45 would hit the table then. Pics would clarify greatly. Nope, just realized you can flip the connector 180, so you get both configs anyway. I still want pics, though, or maybe a youtube...
