The media player is part or maemo, it can't be uninstalled. You can try one of the alternative media players such ad Canola or Mplayer.

When I upgraded to OS2008, the Media Player was working OK. After some installation and uninstallation of various application, Media Player stopped to work.
When I try to open video files including the Nokia 810 ad, Media player says "unable to play" with no picture. But Canola2 can play all those video files.
