grandcentral took away the ability for anyone to send an invite it happened right around the time google.com bought them out

Do I need a soundcard to make VOIP work? I've set up my VOIP as instructed, but there is no sound when I test the phone. I read something about a soundcard, but not sure if I need one for this? Can anyone help please?
