I want to use ssh (WinSCP and putty) between a Windows XP box and an N800 running Diablo. I can use wifi networking to do this but I lose the connection unless I keep it up by periodically pinging my WinXP box from the N800.

Is it possible to use a direct USB connection between WinXP and the N800? If so, what do I need to do?

(I have installed maemo-control-usb but when I try to use USB networking in the control panel I can press "Setup USB networking" but I have no idea what to do next.)
