in /usr/share/doc I make a folder and copy a file to it which is necessary to validate registration of a piece of software I use.
Every now and again, the software starts and flags up 'unregistered'. I look to the folder and both the file and the folder are gone.
I have spoken to the software author who says it is nothing to do with any action his software performs.
Is there some daemon or something which goes around cleaning up stuff it doesn't know about?

When you install packages, it cleans /usr/share/doc; this is to prevent "wasting" space with documentation (since you can't get there with standard apps, anyway).

I think there's a way to remove that, but don't remember what it's called. I'm pretty sure it was only when installing or upgrading packages, though.

Does anyone know if the script that does this has a name or if it is configurable?
