First of all, please pardon me for reposting a question that I posted yesterday in the "2008 OS" forum under a screen rotation thread. After a bit of thought, this seems like a better fit.

Screen rotation (N800/diablo) is working great for me with one exception: mplayer. I added a line to my /etc/mplayer/mplayer.conf ( vf=rotate=1 )to rotate the video 90 degrees, so that I can use my tablet rotated to portrait mode for Canola, FBreader, etc. and still watch video in landscape. That works, except that the video will no longer scale up to full-screen. No amount of playing with mplayer options ( zoom, fs, vf=scale, dsize=, x=, y= ) seems to work.

All of my videos are xvid/mp3 at 400*240.

I suspect that xrandr is not setting the screed dimensions properly when it is rotated, but I'm not sure how to tell for sure. I'm handling rotation with either advance-statusbar-backlight or sb-rotate-plugin, and I get the same results with both.

Any suggestions?

Bad form to reply to myself, but here is some more information:

Changing the mplayer video out from vo=omapfb to vo=x11 causes the video to play full screen with the proper rotation, but obviously too slowly to do any good. vo=xv works fine with the screen not rotated, but blows up in portrait mode.

Installing the xrandr command-line program let me see this:

portrait:
Nokia-N800-23-14:~# xrandr -q
Screen 0: minimum 800 x 480, current 480 x 800, maximum 800 x 480
default connected 480x800+0+0 left (normal left inverted right) 0mm x 0mm
800x480 0.0*

landscape:
Screen 0: minimum 800 x 480, current 800 x 480, maximum 800 x 480
default connected 800x480+0+0 (normal left inverted right) 0mm x 0mm
800x480 0.0*

...which I'm not sure how to interpret. The "current" information looks correct, but the info for 0.0 always shows 800x400.

I hope someone can help me out here, because this issue is making me nuts.

Anyone out there? Should I be reporting this as a bug to someone?

I'm having a similar problem convertiing videos for my blackberry. they come out portrait, but I want them to come out landscape. the videos are wider than they are tall.

I found this page, but it's too late for me to play with this any more tonight. - Just wanted to pass on the link...
