I agree in general, but I'd scarce call ArnimS's site "random". He's a well-known community member with lots of emulator and game ports (and some others, too).

Well, I managed to get it all working from a fresh Diablo 2008 43-7 version.

Don't ask how I did it since it took way too long and I ran into a ton of hangups such as missing dependencies, incompatible application packages, wrong pill mode, apt-get errors, not being root, etc.

But hey, it finally works on my end with Ukki's latest version of Rubybox:
Rubybox 0.3.4

And yeah, like Pushwall said, the file to change the keyboard is actually located here:
/usr/bin/dosboxkbd (Sorry for posting the mistake earlier)

Anyone want to post a step by step along with all of the files and dependencies?

For some reason I don't care too much for the apt-get install thing. I prefer to just have folders on my memory card where you click on them in order without the need to be online.

I keep thinking someday all the repositories are going to die and I'll be left with nothing.

Does that make sense or am I being weird?

Latest is Rubybox 0.3.8, but one can always use the update feature from an older one.

HAH!!!! You guys are GREAT! Got it working now. I didnt even notice that i still hat the 0.71 release of Dosbox. I guess that's also the reason why there were neither the dosboxkbd-file nor the dosbox directory in /usr/share/.
And I actually was/am using rubybox already )

Great to hear that you've got it working, Branitar.

By the way, what are you using Dosbox for anyway?

Currently I'm playing Lands of Lore and Dune2 on it. And there are lots of other old games that I'd like to try. But without the number keys working you can't install most of them as many old games used numbered options in their setups.

Oh wait... You mean that the keyboard is still causing weirdness on your end?

I would think that is has something to do with your German settings. I'll have a look around and see if I can't duplicate the same thing and go from there.

I was talking about the 0.71 version, where the numbers didn't work. But i needed it to work in order to play those old games
I should have used past tense, sorry Now everything works as expected, thanks to you guys

Sorry peeps but i dont want xkbd to play games i apparently need it for input to milkytracker. I use sudser to get root but apt-get as you all know wont install libxpm (n800 2008 -47) Other than reflashing with 2008 and overwriting everything installed and then recloning using console tools can someone please give some simple advice as to how to get xkbd to work. I will worry about keymaps and geometry once i get it working

tia
btw spent hours reading threads about dosbox scumm vm galaga etc tried about ten different suggestions short of the reflash just need a tested solution clearly explained
cheers

Try this:

Go to http://wiki.maemo.org/RubyBox and click on the one-install-click link. When it wants to install RubyBox, press cancel (unless you want it ). Then xkbd should be available from your application manager.
