xterm
sudo gainroot

All the unknown words are frequently used ones, just use search

Like yourself I know enough to be dangerous so I assume you have rootsh installed.

When you attempt to install the deb from the first post in this thread it fails and on one of the info tabs it lists the missing packages it needs. For me it was three packages whose names I forget save that two of them started with python2.4 and the other started with hildon.

So I logged in as root i.e. sudo gainroot in Xterm and then typed:

apt-get install <type missing package name here> (for each of the three missing packages)
answered Y at the prompts

and, voila, when I then tryed to install the pybattery deb it installed

.

There's some info here on what apt-get does.

Thanks to the OP. This is a very handy app and greatly improves on the default battery indicator

To everyone who responded, I thank you. Shows how great a community we really do have here. And all done without snide comments and remarks. Pretty anmazing huh?

Unfortunately when I said "knows enough to be dangerous" iI guess I was overboard on that as well. My limits are the basic installs and updates for the Joe Public ( or Josephine Public) but I have ZERO working knowledge of using LINUX or MAEMO language or commands. I am curious as to why this just couldnt be put together as a simple installable application like most of the downloads we have access to. Just curious.

Thanks for the good app.

One short question: Is there anyway to turn the advpower OFF, i.e., I am NOT reading ALL the info all the time, would it be neat to be able to switch if off say at the end of the day? Currently I am doing this by unchecking ALL the items. Just wondering whether there is a more easy way.

iirc, there is no need, as the info is only gathered or generated when the menu is accessed by the user...

I'm sure it will be. For now you and Josephine are watching this applet as it develops. This is one of the few communities that provide that opportunity to the GP.

For instance version 0.3.2 and themes installed well for me with a current N800. However, attempting to update with the latest version 0.3.3 broke the install.
It shows in "app manager", and it can be selected in "control panel" but it doesn't show in the status bar.

I reverted to 0.3.2 via a fresh install and all is good again. I'm sure it will be sorted out before it is promoted as a "one click" install package. In the mean time I'm going to go back and re-read past threads for other developing apps to see if this behavior has occurred and attempt to find a possible cure...

It also could be simply "operator error" and someone will bring that to my attention as well.

Excuse my working knowledge of advanced-power, does it has to be continuously 'sampling' in order to generate the data, for example, battery %?
