Just got my n810 and one of the first things I was excited to try was fbreader since everyone seems to think it's AMAZING. So I tried it out last night and I was sorely disappointed that there is no automatic scrolling.

I've spent the last 3 years reading ebooks on a Palm Zire 71 (piece of crap) and used PalmFiction and loved the autoscrolling feature. The Zire 71 even had a physical "joystick" (in a good position) that could be used for scrolling (unlike the n810) but I still used autoscrolling.

I've seen lots of stuff on these forums and from a google search about how people are asking for this feature. Most of them date back more than a year ago... and still nothing?

I'd be willing to throw some money at the fbreader devs if this feature was added (and I'm sure other people would) is there any hope of this? (doesn't seem likely since it still hasn't been added)

OR

Is there a decent alternative ebook reader that HAS this feature?

Yes autoscrolling is the one feature I miss on fbreader.

Go to fbreaders google-group and ask there, I think its author is not so active in the itt-forum.

You could try PyBookReader. But there is no prepacked file to get it installed on your N810. Download the archive PyBookReader-0.5.0.tar.gz on to your N810, extract it (tar -xzf PyBookReader-0.5.0.tar.gz), and execute "python PyBookReader-0.5.0/pybr". Of course it is not adapted to the N8X0 but the text scrolls.

waste of time asking, I have asking been for almost a year, and other people have been asking since it was first released for the 770.... it is considered a low priority item in development, but if you search forums, or even google, you will find at least 50 different people have requested this.

I'm pretty new to the community but I'd be embarrassed to be that sort of developer. And why the community insists on supporting them is beyond me.

I even came across a post from "MishaS" (who claims/is someone on the
dev team?) back in mid 2005. "autoscrolling is not supported. It's in plans while it has lower priority"

I have already made a post on the googlegroup but I honestly don't expect much. What a disappointment.

@killdeer, Have you tried using the Garnet Palm Emulator on the N800? I haven't used Garnet since its first iteration (I love FBReader, just as it is), but it seems to me you might be able to install one of the Palm eReader apps, and that it would autoscroll.

I've not tried that. I suppose I will do it next. I'm not married to PalmFiction as an ebook reader but it does do everything I like.

liqbase contains the only fullscreen kinetic reader for the devices but is no competition for the breadth of fbreaders' formats (it is only for flat text at this time).

The new release of liqbase will be broken down into different distinct apps and will include the reader in a privative but documented form able to be extended with new formats and options as required.

@killdeer: If you do the Garnet/eReader install, I'd be interested in hearing back how you like them. TIA
