I've installed ping on the my N810 running the latest diablo. I've a wireless access point with my Ubuntu desktop cabled and other devices connected WiFi. The tablet can ping the desktop IP although there are frequently some lost packets which don't occur when let's say my laptop pings the desktop. When I ping from my desktop the tablet won't answer. Note that is I ping my laptop it always answers. I've also installed VNC viewer on the tablet and it won't connect to the desktop running the vino server either. I'm either missing something or perhaps configured incorrectly. My N810 is no application virgin. Has anyone seen this problem or is able to make some much appreciated suggestions for troubleshooting?

As you usually are -- right again. There has been no other noticable connectivity issues with my TRENDnet router. There are transmit errors which self correct from the tablet -- might they also relate to power management? In a simple sense it seems that the tablet will shut down the radio for 200ms or 1sec whenever inactivity is experienced. The access points roll may then be to understand via the protocol that power saving is on and to extend timeouts to accommodate the tablet radio power down periods. The application on the other end would need to adjust timeouts as well but, it appears that ping assumes constant connection and therein lies the disconnect. It would also seem that the power saving protocol is last mile in nature and not end to end -- on this I'm not sure. Is there an RFC for the protocol to settle my software engineer's curiousity?
