I just got a 770 off of eBay -- everything is fine except when I read ebooks using fbReader, the right side of the screen is noticeably dimmer than the rest, and this makes it disconcerting to read. Does anyone else have this issue?

well, i don't use mine for ebooks, but in general i don't see this problem, screen brightness appears even across my screen.

My 770 also is a little dimmer on the right, and it is noticeable, especially in apps like FBReader with white background and in full screen mode. At first it bothered me, so I tried to read with a black background and with wider text margin. But then it turned out black background bothered me a great deal more After a while I got used to the screen and hardly notice anymore. I must add that all devices I owned with this type of screen - Dell Axim X5 and Tungsten T3 - had this problem, and to much larger extent than Nokia 770.

Yes. It has to do with the way the backlight works on the device. My first 770 had a large difference in brightness. However, the second one I got didn't seem to have as big of a problem with this. So, it could be an age thing, or it could be completely random. I'm not quite sure. But don't worry, GlHart, there isn't anything wrong with your device.
BTW: what mode are you reading in? Vertical or horizontal? I wouldn't think it would be as big of an issue using vertical mode. You might want to try that.
