oh also is there any way to turn off the auto adjusting backlight

Looking at mine now, and yup, that what I see. As far as the backlight, I dunno.. I like the auto adjust myself.

yep, that's just the hinge for the sliding mechanism. As for the backlight try the advanced backlight application and i think there is an option in the control panel somewhere.
