Sorry for yet another post and I'm really sorry if this has been asked before! I looked everywhere but couldn't find a post, but I might have missed it!

I was using Google Documents to transfer text to work on between Laptop and N810, simply because it was so easy But my document has gotten to large for Google Docs to handle... And lots of little docs just doesn't work that well... So I'm looking for an alternate way of working.

I have a wireless router, a desktop pc and a laptop. When I turn on the PC my N810 picks it up and I can look at all the files to my hearts content, but I don't use the desktop (it's a stone age machine that crashes as soon as you look at it!)

I want to do the same but with my laptop, but try as I might one won't talk to the other...

I don't want to have to keep emailing myself the stuff I need to work on...

You say you can see the files on your desktop.
Is that through File manager, shared folders?

If so, you'll just need to set up sharing on certain folders on your laptop, then you'll have access to the files in the same way.
There's some info on WinXP file sharing here.

you can setup hamachi on your n810 and your laptop and then you can securely access your laptop's shared folders from anywhere provided that you are both connected to the internet.

Details here:

BTW, you're a linux guru by now right?

That's the thing that's puzzled me. My folders are already shared, I swap files back and forth all the time for back up purposes, so surely they should show up in the same way right? Or am I missing something?

I wish! If I were then that link would have made sense to me and I wouldn't have to keep asking dumb questions!

Hamachi looks great, but a little bit to complex for me...

I really wish I knew more about this stuff!

Windows shares can be picky about when they show up, always have been, always will be.

And that's not specific to maemo...

The problem with windows shares is the password protected ones. The built-in file manager won't show these. The solution is to use wizard-mounter to mount the shared folder, then access your files from the folder it creates.
