I just got my 810 and i thought it would be a good idea to flash it before i start using it regularly, but im a bit turned around on exactly how to do this due to some conflicting instructions. As a reference i am using Ubuntu 8.04 to do this flashing.

Im basing this confusion on the instructions here:
http://wiki.maemo.org/Updating_the_tablet_firmware

and here:
http://wiki.maemo.org/Flasher

1. One of the instructions tells me to turn on the device when i plug it in, the other says the opposite. Which is it?

2. the physical commands for the terminal are different. Which one do i use?

thanks so much for the help! im really looking forward to using this 810 on a daily basis (laptops are so darn heavy)

This is how I flash, and it works fine:

* turn the device off
* connect it via USB cable to your computer
* run the flasher (as root)
* the flasher now sits and waits until you turn on the device
* turn on the device and flashing starts
