Hi folks.

I was wondering if there is an actual advantage of installing Android as opposed to keeping Maemo. Is there a reason why I might want to risk losing my current OS, other than for the sake of the new OS itself (which is a valid reason, just not compelling enough for me)?

Is there any genuine advantage in terms of usage, like, say, being able to use Gears for gcal or some such?

Or did I just miss the point here, and it is indeed possible to have something like a dual boot, so I would not actually lose my current installation? (I really could not figure that one out by reading relevant threads here)

I guess what I am asking for here is a cost/benefit analysis of changing the OS (assuming installation goes well).

Any opinions?

Can't duel boot really with android yet. You have to reflash your kernel each time, but you wont lose your maemo install. So you could call it duel boot except for you have to hook it to computer each time to change OS. Android for our tablets is still kinda in the real early stages. It will boot and some applications run really well but others don't work at all and your limited to certain programs because we don't have access to Android market. I've installed just about every version and test it out a little then go back to my maemo/mer because its just not ready for everyday use.

at this point, Android on the tablets is very unstable and not for everyday use (in my opinion). Soft keyboard crashes indefinitely, programs are rather slow and limited, many don't work. It's more for experimental and debugging in order to further develop until it's more stable and practical.

If you use your n800 on a day to day basis, you'd want to keep Maemo installed

Yes, it does, but with all the issues mentioned (soft keyboard crashes, works slowly...). Tear is MUCH much better.
