I was running into the same issues as others in older threads when trying to format using N8's file manager, so I resorted to formatting (FAT32) using my PC.

Now I'm wanting to partition it. I have http://wiki.maemo.org/Partitioning_a_flash_card open in another tab, and http://wiki.maemo.org/Root_access in yet another (on my PC, not N8.)

My question is this: Is my internal card ready for these steps, now that it is "clean"? Is there anything else I have to do before I start the process to gain root access as described on the above site? Also, will have to reflash the card at any point before or after I do this?

I just don't want to get in the middle of something and have any surprises.

(If you reply, please address me as if I were in kindergarten; when it comes to anything linux, I'm a preschooler.)

Thank you so much, it worked just fine, said all is successful - ran into a glitch afterward and have hopefully posted about it in the appropriate thread . Appreciate the help GeraldKo!
