Although I am pleased that you got 'MChronos' to work for you, I should point out that my own version of the 'hildon-desktop-python-loader' is 0.0.2.2, and it works OK!

Nokia-N800-23-14:~# dpkg -l|grep hildon-desktop-python-loader
ii hildon-desktop-python-loader 0.0.2-2 Hildon Desktop Python Plugin Loader

Also, no one else that is successfully running this applet has mentioned a problem with the version of 'hildon-desktop-python-loader'. Have you tried *other* applets? You could also try my 'MOrrery' applet, but it would be better to try something that *I* did not write.

I would also recommend that you got back to the 'newest' version of 'hildon-desktop-python-loader'.

UPDATE: The version of 'hildon-desktop-python-loader' that you were using looks like it was for 'Chinook', and not 'Diablo'. What version of the OS are you running? Also, do you have the correct version of 'python2.5-hildondesktop' also installed? You hadn't mentioned that library.

Thanks for the tips. I noticed that I also cannot start homeip.
Strange enough after a reboot it worked and after a reboot again it did not work again.
So I think is is a problem with the version of hildon desktop.
You mention the latest versions, but where can I find these ?

NEWS FLASH! I may be onto something that may lead to better inactivity. Stay tuned -- but it may take a few days
That's exactly what I was talking about. I was thinking about how omweather opens a new window when you tap it.

I'm looking forward to your update!

I don't try to keep track of 'where' everything is -- I just let the application manager and repositories help me do that stuff

That being said, it looks like the 'diablo' stuff is here:

It works !!
Finally after a reflash of my device (and considerable cleanup even after restoring my own settings and applications) MChronos runs normally.

That is good news! Any idea *why* your tablet needed to be reflashed? It looks like you were curious enough about MChronos to go through the pain and effort of doing this

Why ?
Because my tablet spontaneously reboots every 2 days always while I am operating it.
But after the reflash it did reboot spontaneously again once (of course deliberate reboots excluded).

Not related strictly to MChronos, but I had reboots when I had many applets due to some of them leaking memory (and eventually filling up causing a reboot). Do you have swap enabled (virtual memory in maemo lingo) ? It will not solve desktop applet leaks, but will at least increase time between reboots.

Well, I guess you suspected that these spontaneous reboots would be avoided by a re-flash, but you must have also suspected that some library/OS corruption had occured -- since otherwise applets (like MChronos) would have otherwise worked OK, right?

It would be great if we could always know what is 'broken' in cases like this, but I agree that finding the true cause is almost impossible sometimes

Hello folks:

Well, by limiting the time I spend eating and sleeping, I have added a bunch more code to 'MChronos' -- up from 1500 lines to 2500 lines. For those of you that like 'lean and mean' applets, the changes will probably not interest you. The newest version (0.30) has 5 more 'modes' than the previous version had, and now -- finally -- has a primitive level of 'clickability', so that the mode can be selected directly in the applet itself -- rather than just via the 'ini' file. As well, a toggle for the 'text' mode is now available. Yes, the font is very small -- so that I can squeeze the text info that I want

The newest version is in 'extras-devel', or on my software web site. If it works from there, I will promote to the 'extras' repository -- so let me know.

As always, comments are appreciated!

EDIT: Mention changes from README file:

2009/07/19 = version 0.30
- major enhancements!
- add earth/dome/horizon/moon/pole window options
- add ability to click on non-PyGTK buttons to capture click selections
- add planet and brightest star plots to two of the new window options
