I save the track files from Maemo Mapper and convert them for use with USAPhotomaps using Excel. USAPhotomaps requires the track files to be ".csv" format and in UTM coordinates. I edit the track files and would like to be able to upload and display them again on Maemo Mapper.

I believe that I need to use GPSBabel to convert back to a GPX format. I have tried to convert many times using differnent options but I always get an "Error parsing GPX file" when I try to open the converted track. I have also tried opening it as a route but get the same error.

If it matters, I am using Maemo Mapper 1.4 on a 770 with OS2006.

I have spent hours searching and trying to figure this out. I would be extremely grateful if someone could help.

I don't know what format the track files are in, but this program has an option to output to CSV, among many others: BT747.

Uses Java. Hope it helps.

There's a thread on BT747 and Maemo here and I started of one on the BT747 site.

BT747 can read binary files, but also nmea, gpx (in J2SE version), csv, ... . It can generate a lot of different formats, including CSV.
You can try on Windows, Linux, Max if BT747 can read your GPX file. If it does, you can work towards getting something working on Maemo.

I was thinking that perhaps I should have started with a more basic question. Is there any way to edit tracks? I have searched extensivley and there does not appear to be an easy way to do this.

I've used the Poi Editor website http://www.poieditor.com/ with success in converting .csv files to .gpx files.

gpstrackmaker (a pc application) can also edit tracks.
I gues that you want to do it on Maemo though.

Thanks. Actually I am looking to do it under Windows not Maemo. I installed gpstrackmaker but don't really have the time to figure it out right now. The help file does not appear to be working. Hopefully I will have more time to experiment tomorrow.



Thanks. I played around a litlle with this also. It looks like I may need to change the format of my ".csv" file. Will experiment more later. Not sure if it will work since it is intended for POI's but I will see what happens.

That's actually what I used it for. I downloaded POI's from PoiFriend.com. I first downloaded them in .gpx, but only a few worked, the majority got a parsing error. Then I tried .csv and converted them, it worked, but the Latitude and Longitude were swapped with how Maemo Mapper does it, so everything was in the wrong place. I used Excel and switched the columns.

I just remembered an extra step I took to make importing easier...
Instead of using that site to convert (I just used to compile multiple POI's together) I took the .csv file and on the tablet I loaded it into GeoPoi. That program will take your poi files, and merge it into your existing POI .db file. This process is a lot faster than importing them via Maemo Mapper.

I have been trying to get this to work. I add a ".gpx" extension to the track from Maemo Mapper and open it in gpstrackmaker. I delete some of the points from the end of the track and re-save it as a ".gpx" file. When I try to open it in Maemo Mapper, I get the "error parsing gpx file" message. Very frustrating.
