i don't know if this would be a huge pain in the *** but i don't really want any of the other features of the n810, just the browser. is it possible to just run the browser in full screen.

I'm writing a skin for a web interface for windows media center and i plan on using the n810 as a remote. that's the only thing it will be used for and the maemo interface is just kinda fugly so i don't want it to be seen.

I have an n800, but I think there's a button on the top of the device that, when pressed, will make the current application run in full-screen mode.

you can make it full screen.. i just need to make not be able to get out of full screen.. i love maemo and all but i don't want to see the interface at all. This is going to be a single purpose tool, just a remote.

can't you just *leave* it in full-screen?

no.. i don't want the off chance that someone can get out of the remote interface and i don't want them to see the maemo interface when it reboots.. needs to be clean and not hacky. might end up having to go with something else, just poking around forums to see what will work without a huge development cycle and what wont.

You probably wouldn;t want to go with the 810, because of it's hardware keyboard if anything.

Wait, wait, so the only real reason you want the N810 is to make it a remote when it's actually a powerful mini-computer?

All hope for this world is lost...

Use a "Windows Media Center" remote or a phone. :/

I don't think you will EVER have to reboot. Just make sure you don't press the fullscreen button (maybe disable it somehow), and you should be fine.

You must assure also that the remaining hardware keys don't get pressed because they would exit the browser.
Maybe you could write a simple shell script, which
1) deactivates hardware buttons through xmodmap (they are function keys, just change their function)
2) opens the browser
3) exits.

I'll trade you a 770 for the 810--then all the nice features of the 810 don't need to go to waste.
