Ok, i've searched around and found no solution to my problem. recently, modest has started telling me that it can't connect to pop.gmail.com and says that my user name or password might be incorrect. this happens for both of my gmail accounts. using imap, the same thing happens. it works sometimes, and other times it does not. until recently it has worked most of the time, so it hasn't been a problem, but now is usually doesn't connect. i tried reflashing my n800, and the problem is still there. is this a problem communicating with google's servers?
i'm out of ideas. if anyone can help out, that'd be nice.

edit: and i did check and re-check all the settings in modest, looking at the gmail settings page for help and confirmation.

I've actually been experiencing crashes with Modest when trying to open an email picked up by my google IMAP settings. I thought maybe this thread might be relevant, but even it doesn't offer any solution & I haven't made time to try to debug it myself yet.

thanks for the thread link. unfortunately it didn't have any definite answers as to why the pop.gmail.com doesn't connect properly. i've already tried the @ or no@ in the user name...

I use IMAP and have had no trouble reading and sending email with Gmail and my N810. I access Gmail this way every day multiple times.

Maybe it's this problem?

I have found that when I get the user name error that I can remedy it by disconnecting from wifi and re-establish it.
Have no idea why this works...

I had that problem once when I changed my password in gmail. I changed it in Modest and it wouldn't work. I kept messing with it for a week. finally it worked. Now I've had no problems going on 4 months. I never figured out why it was doing that.

Wondering why you use POP instead of IMAP here.
