But not 2 devices in my hand. As I said, I can leave the mifi in my gadget bag. Or even just leaving it in a pocket without ever fumbling with it, would be better than dealing with a separate phone.

I'm connecting my tablet to my cell phone via BT, without having to touch it! , and can leave it in my backpack with BT on during days.
And BTW, it's a real phone, so I can even use it make phone calls. I don't really get the point of the mifi (Ok, you will have higher download speed with wifi than with BT, but I'm not using my tablet to stream HD videos anyway.

How are you making all of your calls (and doing SMS/MMS messaging) without touching your phone?

When I said I only want to have ONE handheld, I meant ONE. For calls, for SMS/MMS and IM messaging, for web browsing, for RSS reading, for email, ssh to my servers, etc. All one device.

It's ok if the WWAN gateway is in my pocket or gadget bag, as long as I don't have to hold it in order to make voice calls, send/receive SMS, etc.

I tried it with the NIT and various remote control functions for the NIT->Nokia-Phones, but the integration there was sorely lacking ... and limited me to Nokia phones. Even if I did bluetooth headsets (I don't), that doesn't help with originating calls, as far as I know, nor with SMS/MMS messaging.

None of the things you guys are presenting provides me with what I want.

You're not sounding like an a-hole. You're echoing exactly what I've said elsewhere :-)

I even said it on the forums yesterday: a Maemo Phone would get me to consider switching back to Maemo. _ESPECIALLY_ if it also had Canonical's Dalvik/Android run time (run Android apps on top of Gnu/Linux/X).

And in the most recent N900 thread, I said it multiple times there.

But, alas, the N900, and/or a Maemo Phone, do indeed, remain "fabled".

Tried it. It didn't work very well (in fact, with my Nokia phones, I couldn't get it to work AT ALL). I had that exact software in mind when I said (later in that same message):

I tried it with the NIT and various remote control functions for the NIT->Nokia-Phones

The hardware sounds exciting.(minus the 320x480 screen).

http://www.zii.com/Developer/SDKProducts.aspx.

Would love to hear more about it from and if any member here gets this device.

Yeah, getting back to talking about this device ;-) ... It does look like a great little device. I'm hoping that Creative really pushes the envelope with it. And for everyone who is/was an N800-as-media-player user, it might be an interesting competitor for the NIT platform.
