Yes, I too miss the hard shell for N800. But I feel the design of N800 may not allow the case to slide in from any side. Just got an idea!

* How about, same pouch with one side hard shell and a buckle on top to not to slip out Just an accessory change.

Continue thinking . .. ... .... .....

So they'll have to change this on the N900 ...

The leather-screencover they announce on some nokia.sites will do this job pretty well. It's not a replacement for the 770s hard cover, though, because the N800 lacks the magnetic switch that puts the device to sleep. The basic design change needed for the next model would be to re-implement this mechanism on the device itself.

That's uncanny, because I have been pondering about cutting a piece of aluminium (I'm not American, I know how to spell it ) and somehow work it into the pooch-- uh: pouch, with a magnetic clip to lock it.

I'll think some more, but the problem is that we're a month away from moving from Europe to Thailand, and most of my gear is packed. I don't think I can cleanly cut metal with my Leatherman...

Is there enough clearance on the pouch to put a snap in place?

There is room to put it there, but not enough room to close it.

There's an easy way to CLIP a cover to the front of the N800 (and I'll graphically illustrate when I get the time): take advantage of the gap between the metal frame and the LCD screen to insert 4 thin retractable clips near the corners. The clips would of course be attached to a hard cover. Heck, you could even attach such a mechanism to the back of a bt keyboard.

*waits for applause*

You could sew in a Velcro strap...
