I'm sure this has been hashed out before, but what a terrible device when compared to the 770/N800... Yeah, I know it has a keyboard built in, but not a very good one... The real thing that irked me about the reviewers attitude was how often people site it's "Beautiful" screen as a selling point... Give me a break!

Well, I own both. Your statement is not very informative, but I respect your opinion. However, there are two important dimensions (ignoring the keyboard) that the Mylo totally dominates the 770/800:

1. Battery life. You can listen to mp3's for 45 hours - yes, 45 hours. And, you get album art, info on albums, artists, etc. just like any good mp3 player (it plays mp3's, wma's, atrac). You can watch video for 7-8 hours. You can surf the web for 7-8 hours. (Yes, I have expereienced these times.) Total domination. I hate worrying about the battery going dead. This is the one device for which I feel relaxed about using it away from ac.

2. Videos. Although the Mylo only accepts one codec, it's quality is high: about 700 kbps at 320x240. It plays 30 fps easily in stereo - no jumps, skips. Colors are great, picture is sharp. And, did I say you can watch videos for 7-8 hours? The 770/800's are really, really bad at playing videos (right now). They cannot even play the included demo video well - cannot keep up with the frame rate (on the included player).

The 770/800 has lots and lots of advantages over the Mylo (program add-ons, flash!) so on net if one had to choose it is perfectly reasonable to want the Nokia. This will be more so when Skype is enabled (it is ready to go on the Mylo). But when I am on a long airplane flight and want to listen to my music with good sound or watch my videos, or want a compact voice over ip phone, the Mylo is it.

haha, i wasn't trying for informative... I was mostly just being loud and obnoxious :-). It's actually very interesting to hear someones opinion who actually owns both (no one else i read had both devices).

I can very much see the battery life issue, and if the mylo has video playback as nice as the PSP then I'd be quite impressed (though I rarely use video... it's a really nice thing to have when you want it).

This brings up an interesting question, actually... Why is video playback so terrible on the 770/800... the devices have high enough specs that they should be able to play video flawlessly, and since both Mylo (i think....) and 770 run some sort of linux (though perhaps different approaches, i understand the mylo is much more embedded). I really do prefer the screen / form-factor of the 770, but that's ultimately a matter of preference...

Maybe I'm imagining that the Mylo is targeted at the same audience that the 770 is... I definitely see the 770 more as a web device, and the mylo more as a skype / instant messaging one, though maybe I'm missing the point. your thoughts?

And I suppose, also, where do you use one over the other? You mentioned flights, etc, but are there other instances?

but if it takes twice as long to read pages on the mylo's tiny screen...

A nokia screen is 2.7 times the surface area of a mylo screen, so other things being equal, the nokia screen will require 2.7 times the power to maintain the same brightness.

mylo
2.4 = sqrt( sqr(4x) + sqr(3x) ) calculated diagonal area
5.76 = 25 sqr(x)
area = 4x * 3x = 12 sqr(x)
area = 12 * 5.76/25 = 2.76 in^2

nokia
3.5 * 2.25 = 7.86 in^2 measured by myself

7.86/2.76 = 2.78
the nokia screen has 2.7x larger area

8 hrs * 2.76 sqr in = 22.08
3 hrs * 7.86 sqr in = 23.58
sqr inch hours should be related to watt-hours by some constant
the nokia battery has slightly more capacity ( 1200mah vs 1500mah )

I wouldn't call it total domination, it's just physics.
