The "work" and "project" fields are actually fairly contentious. I don't want my badge saying, "Nothing Maemo related," which is what I had to put into the work field at maemo.org. I notice that there are a lot of people who have done something like me in their profiles, and it will look weird to have a bunch of people walking around with "Not Maemo related" or whatever.

This is actually a failure of maemo.org, it should have some way to make it clear that you want your corporate affiliation to be known.

I also think the fonts should be like this:

Thanks Texrat!

I will provide graphics as soon as I get to the office.

About the content of the fields, they can be edited at http://maemo.org/profile/edit/ . I'm planning to send an email to all registered participants asking them to fill the fields with the information they want to show in their badges as soon as we agree here which are those fields.

A5 is pretty big and I believe there is space for work and primary project keeping your maemo.org ID and name big.

If you don't want to show your employer, you think it has nothing to do with Maemo, you are a student etc then you can simply leave the field empty.

The primary project is for many as important or more than their job for their public identification. "University of where? Ah, so you are the developer of Mauku!"

And with 400 participants is not true at all that we all know each other. Actually not many will be able to identify by the name / nickname more than 40 people (and that's 10 percent). lardman you can check your social knowledge youself at http://maemo.org/news/events/maemo_summit_2009/

Qole, in your draft there is a "qole.org". Would that come from the primary project field or the personal website?

Ok, thanks Quim.

I still need to know the printing method. Do you want to provide me a database and I can try metadata merge? If so maybe we had better test first. Or am I providing background that a service provider will overlay?

Also, my printer can handle A4, not sure if it will A5. I will see (then see where I can buy some paper as I have been reducing to US "A" size for proofs).

You only need to produce 2 A4 PDFs, one for each side of the paper. We can find a printer around or use a laser printer at the office. Whether the name is printed directly on the paper or on sticker labels is almost not relevant for your design work.

You don't need to bother about A5 or A6 papers as you always will work with real A4 folded twice.

Ok, let me see if I understand correctly...

I assumed there would be some sort of metadata merge eventually with whatever I (or anyone else) produced. After all that's the easy way to get names onto the overall design. But now it sounds like I will design around the names and personal details, allowing room for their addition later. In other words I will omit real names, user names, etc and just allow room for them. Correct?

We need to have badges without data anyway for those having lost their badge, media landing in the last minute, etc.

I'm not sure whether it is better to have the names printed directly or have them in separate labels. Any ideas?

Also I was not thinking on giving to you the extra responsibility of printing and bringing to Amsterdam everything. Do you want to do this or do you prefer finding a printer in Helsinki/Amsterdam?

I'd provide "designed" space holders (i.e., Username, First Name, Last Name, etc.) for the Nokia people to see. They can then use those as the spaces for the actual data merge to occur. Don't leave the design up to them.

Tim
