This is a really good idea. and by "this" what I mean is, one solution is to have an application that draws all the wallpapers from the site and offers them to the user. I haven't had enough fresh air today so I think I just hallucinated this being suggested.

The most likely thing that's going to happen here, is that I'm going to make a N900Wallpapers app as my first dive into app development once I get my n900.

This is probably the quickest way for this to happen because I'll be able to code solutions on both ends as I go.

Now all I need is an n900... *cough cough*

Wow, I am so not with it today. I have the SDK installed at home, I can start on this once I've refined the site a bit more and once I get some free time.

Edit;
As an aside, I'm more than happy to build out an API for anyone more experienced than I who would like to do this before I give it a shot.

My 8 classic gaming wallpapers (http://n900wallpapers.com/users/zerojay) are being packaged up for inclusion in Extras for Maemo 5.

Ohh yeah! I spent an hour just making a few quick backgrounds and uploaded them straight to your site.

Now. Is there a possibility to edit tags and the description afterwards? =D

I don't yet have the routines to double check everything.. I just noticed that code177 (or somebody else?) did add a tag, 4 pack, that could be added to all my images. And I just noticed that a pic 2/4 is duplicated and the 3/4 is missing =(

Aaand you guys could check http://n900wallpapers.com/users/mandibela =D and comment here, as there doesn't yet seem to be a possibility to comment. Other than the This is awsum -button. I did all of those backgrounds just now, as a complete experiment. But I could use all of those on my N900, to me they seem ok.

But a very nice site nevertheless, I'm sure It'll be a hit when the device finally ships.

Good morning all.. (one day until the weekend!)

Last night I added some new features and a few improvements to the site, and some bug fixes.

Here are the main new features:
  • Added a "Top Contributors" list
  • Made a basic rating system "This is awesome" button for all wallpapers. This could be improved in the future but for now I think it serves our purposes.
  • Highest rated wallpapers on the front page
  • Syndicated all new wallpapers to @n900wallpapers on twitter (there's a button on the front page for it)
  • Put up RSS button on the front page, it uses the twitter feed for the RSS
  • Split computer generated into 3D/Computer Generated and Video Games & Gaming (I'm looking at you, zerojay :P)

Other than this I made some basic layout changes to the wallpaper pages, and various bug fixes regarding the tags/save/approve system.

Still to do:
  • Auto-slicing of 3200x480 images (turns out to be harder than it sounds)
  • View wallpapers by popularity|views
  • Better stats
  • Comments on wallpapers?
  • "home" page for uploaders?

Some traffic stats: (UV = unique visits, PV = page views)
Sunday (release): 381 UV, 2,045 PV
Monday: 805 UV, 6,352 PV
Tuesday: 337 UV, 3,360 PV
Wednesday: 417 UV, 4,586 PV

Loving the wallpapers by the way. It's really nice having good images come through my email to look at (and approve)

ps. zerojay - can we get some SNES Donkey Kong Country loopables?

pps. also there's i introduced a bug in the tags system which I just noticed, for today, please add your tags in the description field (my tags field is coming through blank) cheers!

I'm not so sure the comments on wallpapers would be useful (that would distract the possible downloader), I'm liking the 'homepage' type approach better. Now THAT could have a feedback/commenting possibility. And even better, if I had any possibilies to control my own wallpapers, that'd be great. Stats is easy to accomplish, but I'm not in deparate need of that system. The top contributors list is good, and maybe a popular wallpaper list too.

Oh and the
Your wallpaper description needs to be at least a paragraph long!
is starting to bother me I'm thinking of inserting a lot empty spaces at the end of my descriptions...
