One of the big items on Engadget on 02/07 was the FCC information on Archos's upcoming 704 Wifi:

I just found this through Google "Archos 704" and it looks like these American e-stores are getting ready to release the Archos 704 wifi:

Based upon the brief specs given, it does seem to confirm that the screen is indeed 7 inches, will come in 80 GB, and the screen resolution will be 800 x 480 (which means great internet surfing).

No release date is given, but again, it does appear to be close since the pages have already been created.

The fact that the screen resolution is 800 x 480 and might be about $100 more than N800 might be some competition for N800 for web surfing and multimedia. While it is bigger than N800, it will still be smaller and more portable than PP3.

I bought the N800 but returned it due to "Network Problem" issues. That is, 90% of the time I couldn't get it to load web pages or update the application catalog. I too am now looking at the Archos 704 Wifi. The 604 and 704 are both, from Archos's point of view, completely closed systems. No method is offered for adding third party applications or utilities. OTOH, they both run Linux so I would assume that third party stuff will start to show up if it has not already. I have not yet found a good 604/704 wifi forum or any third party or open source offerings for either the 604 or 704 wifi. Please let me know if you do. BTW, it is listed as in stock here: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/cont...ist&sku=484516

I bought the Archos 604 Wifi but returned it due to very slow and crippled Opera an also due to a diffuse screen (the 604 non-Wifi without touchscreen is much sharper and brighter). Opera was very slow and there was no way to display local pages, just to name one of the drawbacks. The PDF-Reader was almost unusable. The 604[wifi] plays and records video very well, but that's all -- too less for me.
