Hi, take http://maemo.org/community/brainstor...of_the_screen/ as an example.

We are actually happy with the location and there are no plans to change it in Harmattan eithr. The small amount of votes gathered seem to share this opinion.

The only resolution available that comes close to a WONTFIX is "Sandbox - Invalid", but this is not true since the proposal itself is valid. Another thing is whether we agree on it or not.

I personally don't like the idea of something so negative as "WONTFIX" in Brainstorm. Are we able to define other status labels?

I understand your concern about being too negative Texrat, but personally I believe that there should be a way to tell people that a certain problem doesn't really exist.

I believe that there will be ideas/problems posted to brainstorm that haven't been thinked through enough once more people start to come to this site and find brainstorm. If and idea is stupid and many people can see that there is no point in it then it should be told to the author straight out.

Nothing good comes out of being too nice and not telling what you really think about an idea. Not doing so could just lead to too many people wasting their time with a poor idea while some other idea that could very well be worth the effort might get without attention that it might have deserved.

Maybe in Brainstorm instead of "WONTFIX" we have a "Solution" item that requires no change to the code/UI/process/whatever, but lets the original reporter achieve his/her initial goal (kind of a "workaround solution").

In the case of the linked idea, I tried to add a "workaround" solution that will allow the user to achieve the goal (easier access to task switcher) by simply using the keyboard shortcut (something that already exists).

If several users agree that the workaround is good (i.e. the solution gets more votes), the idea can then be considered "fixed" without any changes necessary.

For very special cases, a solution like "Don't change anything - get used to it" could be added as a kind of "soft wontfix" that can then be voted for.

Not sure where you're getting that I'm opposed to such a thing-- I'm just looking for the best term. I don't think "WONTFIX" is it. I've been in a marathon odd-hour business call for several hours so my brain is too fried to think of alternatives, but I will later.

Meanwhile Thomas' ideas are fairly reasonable IMO.

Personally, I don't think brainstorms should be closed completely since the community can use it to come up with their own solution outside of Nokia involvement. I would leave a comment on any "Nokia should do it" solutions saying "we're not doing this" and maybe just close that particular solution down.

I don't want some good potential community brainstorm solutions to the idea to end up hidden away because Nokia won't implement it themselves.

now I definitely see Quim's point about a "WONTFIX".

What I would like to see:

-Option for creator to Withdraw proposal (I don't see that)
-Option for moderator to Retire a proposal (perhaps with originator approval required)
-Feature to support Hibernation/Expiration of an idea if it receives no activity for a certain length of time

In the case that someone finds out his own proposal was a huge mistake, he can always move it to http://maemo.org/community/brainstor...ndbox/invalid/

If the problem is lack of consensus, loss of interest of the promoter or etc I agree, just leaving the proposal is enough. Time will tell whether it is rated and taken by other people or if it sinks in the seas of memory. Happens the same with bugs btw.
