Heyho!
Tonight I left my N800 charging. The morning I wake up it was completely charged. Then I used the device 10 Minutes for a little wlan browsing. After that I put the device back to the plug, because I planed to listen to Iradio for some hours. So I started the streaming. That was two hours ago, and the charging indicator indicates that it is still charging???

Arrrrrgh, even now it's charging!?!? Over 3 hours to charge a 98% full battery???? The upper central part (right there where the microphone is located) is even warm. Have to admit, I am still streaming Iradio, but now it's seems very strange to me.

PS: If you don't see me again writing stuff in this forum, it is because my N800 eventually exploded just 20 cm away from me. Please tell my familly how I die...

That's strange. I tested something similar: Freshly charged, used for a while on battery only, plugged in the charger again. It started charging but finished some ten minutes later.

How long was "a while"? For me it was 10 minutes. It's still charging.... three hours now.
Yours seems to work the opposite way than mine. Perhaps something to do with charging calibrations of the charging-electronic? When I got mine (last thursday), I was completely discharging/charging 2-3 cycles., so the electronic could calibrate to the battery. But I used the device when charging the first times, perhaps that was not optimal?

My charging/consumption of power has been totally fuzzy until I was told by s-o in Nokia Labs

- to charge over very long period of time and consume 100% (full cycles) 4 to 5 times in a row. nothing new, but I must admit I did not do it in the first place and I used the n800 while charging at first
- to switch OFF Wifi and BT connections when not using the N800 as variations in the field and refreshs create variations in the consumption rate.

Now it s VERY steady. I don't know if this helps.

To do this only on the first charging cycles? If not it would be like "Do not use the features of your device, cause then it can't charge the battery properly."
From your experience it shows that it is related to the charging-unit in the device. I will start again some 100% discharge/charge cyles over night, without usind the device.
Now I will cut off the power. I feel pity for my little innocent tablet...
Thanks for help.

In my case it s impossible to know if switching off BT and WF applies to first charging cycles only, because I kept this rule on afterward as it still consumes 100% of the capacity in 3.5 hours. as specified in the technicals specs on the website. As I m no expert, instead of investigating the problem, I just followed the advice and got rid of the problem.

I hated to find my n800 battery totally empty in the morning . I even thought there was a default. Now I m happy!

I did my little test with maybe 20 minutes of usage before I charged.
As for initial handling of battery I discharged it to 25% the first time, and after that I just kept charging when it reached 50% (or earlier) except for once or twice when it as at 25% or less.

But I know from my Palm T3 that the charger circuit in the unit could get confused (particulary when new or with new battery), and you had to do something called an "in-cradle reset", which was to reset the device while it was attached to the charger. There is no notion in the N800 docu (thin as it is) about anything similar, although the symptoms you describe could sound like it needed one.

I hope the device is intelligent enough to adept and correct it's charging strategy automatically. Such a "charging-reset" option would be very nice, especially when you have two or more batteries.
