Hi guys, I'm torn between these two.
Please only comment if you have experience using both devices.

I'm planning to use this for
-browsing the internet (<= mainly this)
-games

I don't really care about the keyboard since I plan on getting the bluetooth one. But I do plan to do some light typing on the tablet so any insight about the touch/hard keyboard would be nice. GPS would be okay but I don't HAVE to have it. Same goes for FM radio too.

Some specific questions.
1.) Which has the faster browsing experience?

2.) Is it true that the n800 has a better or wider range/connection than the n810?

3.) How does each device compare when loading pdf files or flash websites?

4.) How do the application OS's work? Can I have OS 2008 and still use OS 2007 stuff? Which OS comes with which?

5.) Battery life for each?

6.) Which do you find better overall?

I have an N810 and....another N810. (;
1.) With OS2008 the N800's processor was "overclocked"* to the same as N810, so I'm going to go with same. *=actually not overclocked, the underclock was just removed

2.) I am very interested in some data on this. I got an external antenna for my N810 cause it's internal antenna is not powerful enough for my needs, yet people claim the n800's is spectacular. We want data!

3.) Same CPU, same OS should be same.

4.) OS2007 can run on N800. But there are a lot of fixes in Chinook and Diablo (both are OS2008).

5.) This would depend on battery and what is installed/running and use. I couldn't even compare my N810s unless I conducted a scientific trial. But again I own not a N800.

6.) N/A for me (though I will say I wish the N810 had the dpad on the non-slide part; also a rotatable camera would be nice; also minisd is crap and I keep breaking my microsd=>minisd adapters)

I have them both. If everything is up to date they would have the same software. Since they use the same processor speed is not going to be much different.

I haven't noticed much of a difference in battery life so all things considered, If you are not going to be traveling much with it the N800 is a better value and as tgalati4 said, it has two, less expensive SD cards.

However, if you are going to carry it with you a lot and plan to use it outdoors at times, the smaller N810 is easier to pocket and its trans reflective screen is easier to read in direct sunlight.

It's just easier to browse the net with the N810's keyboard than the N800's on-screen keyboard. So I would go for the N810.

I own both. I rarely use the N800.It's just too slow, in general, though it's a pleasure to use otherwise.

The N810 keyboard is not very useful. I try to avoid it; I don't like it's feel, and you have to press the keys too hard and too directly. But I have to use the keyboard in some cases, like on the Mindmeister site you can't happily use the mindmapping software with just the software keyboard.

I am not in sympathy with those who play games on tablets, or those who watch movies. I think it's damned near a perversion. Movies are works of art not intended to be shown on tiny screens. Games are so much better on desktop computers.

Tablets are best for reading and browsing. FBReader is about the same on both tablets. I have not noticed a difference in wireless range on the tablets. The N810 is the better browser because it's faster. Flash can choke both tablets.

The GPS is convenient on the N810. I used GPS onboard a cruise ship with the N800 under circumstances in which having a detachable GPS was much better than having one on the tablet. I could put the GPS unit at the window where it got best reception and use my N800 from the bed. That was nice for the "it's 3 a.m. -- I wonder where we are?" moments. With the N810 I would have had to get up and go to the window to get decent reception.

.pdf files are fine for both tablets. Both tablets can and should use the latest software, which is better, but if you have a fondness for some software that is ancient and used to work a few years ago, you can probably get it to work now.

As I said, flash can choke both tablets; I don't see any big difference.

Battery life is probably better on the N810.

I have a 16-gig micro card on the N810. That plus the storage that comes with the N810 is enough for me. I have two sdhc cards on the N800, but I don't need that much storage.

Conclusion: since both tablets should run the same software, they run the same, except the N810 is faster, which is noticeable when browsing.

Final note: today I had to walk a long ways to pick up my car, which was being repaired. I took my Centro and my Kindle -- the Kindle has decent speakers and I listened as I walked.

I didn't bring a tablet.

I though they had the same processor running at the same speed

Answers as the owner of an N800 with 32Gb for 2 years, and N810 with 16gB for 3 months.

1) Both exactly the same. For faster browsing install Tear, but I find the integration etc of the default browser outweighs the slowness, and I find once it's open it's fine.

2) Nah, must be an urban myth. I have not noticed any difference

3) Again, both the same. PDF fine, Flash crap avoid flash sites.

4) I have not found anything I have needed or wanted, which only available for os2007, and 2008 is better anyways. Put the latest on.

5) The N810 is a lot better for me, that may be because my N800 battery is getting a bit old, or that the N810 has better hardware management (light sensor to adjust the screen backlight etc).

6) I much prefer the N810. It looks more contempary these days when on a table next to other phones. and the whole package is just even nicer than the N800, although I still think the N800 is a great design. Never used the camera, or the FM radio much, don't miss them, although I do miss the extra storage space. I find the GPS very handy when out and about, and the hardware keyboard is great for me when using xterm to manage my mythtv server and clients. The fact that the N810 is slightly smaller thatn the N800 also means that it fits in to my shirt pockets and my coat's MP3 player pocket properly
