I found this a couple of hours ago too... I'm surprised that it's a relatively favourable mainstream review. And not gushing over how great another phone is. I wonder if the success of that other phone is due to the presence of their computers in the desktop publishing and media world, with all this support the media give them.

Damn, now I'm sounding like those papers. Anyway, looking forward to the release of the N900.

"relatively favourable"?

More like an advertisement.

I'm glad they hype it, though. Not that I care about Nokia succeeding, but because I believe the N900 will further the goals of Free software and ultimately those of general openness and anarchosocialism.

Hopefully others pick up on the sentiments of the article.

Despite the ire of many who read this site, the n900 is a mainstream device. And will get the attention of the mainstream media. Major carriers across the globe are carrying it, reselling it and supporting it. The question is what kind of sales does the device need to be a success? 100k 500k, 1M devices in the first quarter (or month)? Nokia needs a win.

I'm not really sure that extreme politics is an appropriate discussion for this forum. Do we really understandthe comment made?

Furthering the goals of Free software and general openness is hardly an extreme opinion of the discussion boards of a (mostly) Free software and generally open system. And I think the anarchosocialism bit may have been somewhat tongue-in-cheek.

That said, the Telegraph being co-opted to the cause of anarchosocialism is an amusing idea.

Though what defines a win for Nokia in this case? Public interest? Sales? They already stated that Maemo 5 and the n900 is only step 5 of their six step plan so far to create a smartphone. Even now the n900 has more in common with its tablet precursors than most smartphones on the market.

Yes. The last bit was a joke. And not too funny or appropriate. Sorry. Won't happen again.

Don’t be sorry. The enthusiasm that I have for maemo it’s because it’s open source and I guess that many people here share your view.
People have great tolerance for trolls from apple that came here to tease and very few for people that defend good causes.
